First Completed Sketchbook

Sketchbooks haven't been a huge part of my artistic practice thus far. I tend to tear up my large sheets of watercolor paper for small tests and experiments instead. However, last fall I finally completed my first sketchbook and wanted to give you a video tour of it! It took me 2 years to use all the pages in this sketchbook I made myself. Most watercolor sketchbooks contain awful cellulose paper, so I made this one by hand with a stab binding technique and 100% cotton Bee paper.

Weekly Summary - Jan. 1 2021

Wow my first blog post of 2021, and it's on the very first day of the year. Last week here. The bad news from the past week is: I made barely any progress on my MIL's commission. I started doubting my previous color choice & started a new background, but got no further than that.  I did very little art-ing overall, although I did more yesterday with some of my new supplies from Christmas. Our older cat Pallas has been in declining health all year. We thought we were managing it with a couple different medicines (giving a cat pills one to two times a day is...an adventure let me tell you!) but on Christmas Eve she took a sudden turn for the worse. We sat with her all day and made her as comfortable as possible, but any time we...

Weekly Summary - Dec. 19 2020

I'm a day late and a dollar short. What even happened last week?? Let's review. Ah yes. Wow that was only a week ago? It feels like a month! It was a stressful week both professionally, personally and artistically. I didn't paint daily like I should have, but I focused on a commission for my mother in law as I needed to do.  I felt better overall with the quality of work I created last week. I painted a few more bonfires, trying out a few more of my ideas. It was a mixed bag--I like the vibrant neon colors I...
