Weekly Summary - May 28 2021

art struggles weekly summary

I'm seeing a light at the end of the tunnel finally. I've been sleeping better and working on art. We've had nearly non stop rain though, which has been cancelling events (my main source of revenue for my art). Last week's update here.

I'd love to write that sleeping better has instantly improved everything and life is sunshine and rainbows, but nothing's ever quite that easy. I am sleeping better so that's a relief, but I'm still totally exhausted. It's going to take a while to fully (if ever) recover from the weeks of insomnia.

My day job has been busy but also boring, so I spent too much time on Instagram and felt like I didn't measure up to the other artists I see on there. I tried to break out of that funk with wild experimentation: I painted on and collaged pages from a book. It actually turned out better than I expected and I like the effect quite well, so I will keep this in my bag o' tricks.

I was happy with what I painted last night as well, including one of my favorite things I've done in weeks. I also pushed myself to add a final layer on a few of the small pieces stacked in my "needs more" pile as well and didn't beat myself up if it didn't come out amazingly. It was a productive and inspired day, and those are magical (and rare).

It's rained nearly every day for the past two weeks, and events keep getting cancelled from it. I know I have no control over the weather, but can't help but worry about the upcoming art events in June. Events are where I make the most sales, so if we can't have events, I won't be able to meet my goal of selling more art this year than last. I have my fingers and toes crossed that the weather clears up soon for these events!

For the upcoming week: I have a stack of 5x7 paintings I need to mat & bag to sell at these events. I'll keep doing small tree studies with my dot card (I'm doing one about every other day so far) and working on larger paintings as often as possible. This is Memorial Day weekend and we have a lot going on, but I'll still try to fit some painting in because weekends are usually productive for me.
