Weekly Summary - Jan. 15 2021

This week I made some legit progress! Maybe I'm finally turning the corner after weeks of little to no art. Catch up with last week here. I really, really hate ironing, so I tried to flatten my MIL's piece by lightly misting the back with water & putting heavy paper cutter on it for over a day. It's better...but still not great. I also realized that, once again, it's an irregular size and won't fit a standard mat/ frame. Grrr!! Why do all paper manufacturers make pre-cut paper that doesn't fit standard sizes!?!? It's so infuriating! 7x10, 10x14, etc are worthless...

Weekly Summary - Jan. 8 2021

Well it's been another week, and very little has changed here in my world. Last time here.  Do you prefer your good or bad news first? Today I'm going to start with the bad so we can end on a brighter note. Bad news item 1: I haven't gotten back into the swing of things after the holidays. I'm not painting consistently yet, and I have very little motivation. I painted a bit once or twice this past week, but not enough.  As I wrote yesterday, I think "same shit, different day" is my overall sense of my life. I'm feeling very...

First Completed Sketchbook

Sketchbooks haven't been a huge part of my artistic practice thus far. I tend to tear up my large sheets of watercolor paper for small tests and experiments instead. However, last fall I finally completed my first sketchbook and wanted to give you a video tour of it! It took me 2 years to use all the pages in this sketchbook I made myself. Most watercolor sketchbooks contain awful cellulose paper, so I made this one by hand with a stab binding technique and 100% cotton Bee paper.

Weekly Summary - Jan. 1 2021

Wow my first blog post of 2021, and it's on the very first day of the year. Last week here. The bad news from the past week is: I made barely any progress on my MIL's commission. I started doubting my previous color choice & started a new background, but got no further than that.  I did very little art-ing overall, although I did more yesterday with some of my new supplies from Christmas. I received a 100% cotton mixed media sketchbook I had on my wish list, which turned out to be better quality than I had realized. Overall, my experiments weren't successes, and there will...

2021 Art Calendar

2021 Art Calendar

I made a calendar with my art!    While putting it together, I learned I mostly paint in portrait orientation, because I struggled to find enough landscape-oriented paintings to use. I'm going to have to work on that over the next year if I want to do this again for 2022, since I used all my favorites from my entire painting experience! I created the majority of the paintings this past year, mostly with my palette knife watercolor technique, but all of them feature my signature style of painting in watercolor without a brush. I have one extra available to purchase...
